With a new Congress, new President and new UN Secretary-General all starting new terms in office this year, it is more important than ever that we continue to fulfill our funding obligations to the UN for the eighth year in a row.
Tensions are high in Washington and Congress is now threatening to take action against the UN following a recent Security-Council vote. As we kick off a new year, we can’t allow the UN to go underfunded or be defunded all together.
In fact, a bipartisan poll released in January 2017 found that 88 percent of American voters support active engagement at the United Nations. Moreover, a vast majority of respondents – 81 percent – also support the U.S. working with major allies to solve global challenges rather than acting alone.
